Britney For The Record

Last night I tuned into Britney's new Documentary "Britney For The Record". I had waited an entire month for this show. With a few minor setbacks. (Cable Box died a few times over the weekend, Believe me I gave it to the poor timewarner employee because no one was going to keep me from my Brit Brit). And nothing did. I came home from work, poured myself a glass of wine and changed into my PJ's and it was on! Britney For The Record. I was scared! Will this poor lil southern girl who really didn't finish High School look like an idiot once again? Will she talk too much? Or even worse will she defend President Bush again like she did in the Barbara Walters special? YIKES! Will she spill the beans about drugs, sex and that crazy exboyfriend/Paparazi Adan? The beginning was a little too artsy! Come on Brit get to it already! Then she did. Conveniently shacked up in the Mondrian Hotel Britney answered question after question. Repeating herself a lot but she seemed present, warm and open. In between the question and answers they cut to her preparing for events, performances and we even saw her auditioning dancers and filming her videos. It was the 60 day's leading up to her video shoot for her latest album. And they marked each day. The first thing I thought.......was where are her friends? We all need friends! Esp. Brit Brit. She needs to have someone in her life that is not making money off her. No wonder she feels "used" which is something she said over and over. About a little over half way through we did see two girls (one was said to be her cousin and the other a childhood friend) that seemed to like her even though they got ready in an entirely separate room. They were dressing up for Halloween even though when they got ready there was no discussion on where they were going or what they we're about to do. This was also the only time we saw her two little boys. Thank goodness. I did not want this show to exploit the two little bundles of joy. They really are cute. Something tells me they are going to be hitting on Suri Cruise in 10.5 years. But there was also something disturbing in this scene. Britney’s dad decided to dress up as a scary clown for god knows why, then decided to creep around the side of the house and poor little Jayden (or maybe Sean P.?) Started crying like the baby that he is. Poor kid will now be scared to death of clowns forever.
One part of the show that really sticks out in my mind and that I really loved, was there was a part where Britney was on her bed and she was making fun of her dad. And I felt like THERE SHE IS!!!! That's the Britney I love!!! It was so real and so honest!
On the not so light side there was a part when she was answering questions and she just bluntly said I'm sad! And then the tears started to fall. And all I wanted to do was to hug her. We have put her on the huge pedestal, she is so young and has achieved so much fame that she will never ever know what a normal life is like. Sure some people will still say "poor little rich girl". But yes! That's what her story is, "poor little rich girl, that mommy and daddy forced into their lil meal ticket at a young age" And heaven forbid she you go through tough times. She explained her recent "crazy" bit's as simply not wanting to be home because home reminded her of her two babies that were no longer there. I get that.
Overall I LOVED THE SHOW!!! I LOVE BRIT!!!! I can't wait for next week!

Emmy Bust? Or Bustline?

The night of Sunday September 21st 2008 will be one to go down in history for the show 30 Rock. I'm sure the cast and crew spent several hours celebrating their victorious evening. But what about the rest of us? Maybe it was the 3rd glass of wine before best supporting actress was announced but I felt the need to nod off several times. Don't get me wrong. I enjoyed the red carpet there's something about allowing these women who have been starving themselves, and drinking plenty of water and doing Pilate's for weeks ( or at least since the nominees were announced) to where I feel the need to allow them to strut their stuff. I of course spent today on the web checking out the best and worst dressed only to find to my dismay WHERE WAS EVANGLINE LILLY? In my mind she was the best dressed. (She looked way better than Marcia Cross in that plant inspired number). Lilly dared to wear a print and just looked gorgeous. Of course Brooke Shields and the always well dressed Klum stole the carpet and the stage as well.
Now back to the print thing! Prints were it this year. It's very rare to see anything but a solid color on the carpet (this was the year for red and yellow). But last night things were different. Christina Applegate and that girl from Dancing with the stars are two names and dresses that come to mind.
Now on to the ceremony. If you know me then you know I love my award shows. ( A list shows, no MTV award shows here).
But this year it seemed drab.  You would think the stars would have been jumping out of their skin with the excitement of that of a gay man on Santa Monica boulevard on October 31st. Since last year when most of them chose to stay home and spend time with their children due to the strike that rocked this town.
It all can't be blamed on the host, but this year maybe some of it can. The Academy tried to be clever this year and they had the host from some of the most popular reality shows come together as "friends" to host. They tried a bit where they had nothing planned and it looked just like that! Nothing was planned. Then there was little jabs that came out during the telecast. I heard several times from several different people "such and such stole my bit" so I have no time to talk so onto the awards. What was that supposed to mean? And why do they have to remind us they are pressed for time? I'm on my couch with a glass of Chardonnay in one hand and a chocolate covered pretzel in the other, I don't need your unfunny bit about how you didn't get to do your funny bit because it probably wouldn't have been all that funny in the first place. Let's face it, everyone in that place is more neurotic than the other. it would be like trying to get Sarah Palin to laugh at the fact that Tina does a better Sarah than Sarah Palin.
And was it a kick in the pants that reality host's hosted this year? Didn't reality T.V. take over Hollywood last year due to the writers strike. Did the Academy do that in way to remind everyone of the money that was lost due to the strike? Damn you Tina Fey and your integrity as an artist!
Tina Fey, Tina Fey oh you brilliant, talented woman Tina Fey. Wow was this your night. It was so your night I'm not even going to mention how tired I am of seeing you in black. Why not try out a cute red number? Or even blue would look great on you! But this was your night so I am not going to mention it. You won for writing, show and actress. You're like the little engine that WILL and DID! You're the pure vision of what young aspiring comedic actresses/writers can achieve. (yes I am looking in the mirror)  And didn't you have to audition twice to get into the conservatory at Second City? You go girl! Congrats! And you didn't even cry once. Didn't even come close. Is that your stab at being a strong independent funny lady in Hollywood? Never let them see you cry? Well it's working! Keep it up.
Last but not least this is the year for it so we have to mention it! POLITICS. Oh and everyone wanted to mention it. Some even got cut off. Dear God (or who ever you pray to) you get a bunch of screaming liberals in one room and of course some one is going to step across the "kosher" line. Steven Colbert and John Stewart got their two cents in! Don Rickles tried to. Hey they have every right. Every right as long as your views stay on the left side of the room. Can you imagine if a McCain Supporter stood up and tried to speak about what a wonderful future we would have with him as leader. The place would clear out faster than if it was announced that the first person out the door definitely got there show picked up for another season.
Overall the ratings were low but the good thing is once again I was reminded of shows that I have yet to watch like Brother's and Sisters and Pushing Daises. And what was that miniseries Bernard and Doris?
So were the Emmy's a bust or a great Bustline. I'm going to go with Bust!

Bring Ellen back!
